Group W Toolset Release 4.3
Changes Since Previous Release
This document describes changes released in Group W Toolset 4.3, released on
1999-10-11. The previous version was 4.2, released on 1998-07-07.
This document was developed for Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Microsoft Internet
Explorer 4.0, but it should work with most browsers. This document is element
READ-THIS in file #1 of the GWTS release tape. To view it with a Web browser,
download it to your PC's hard disk (or to your web server) and point your
browser to it.
Older versions of this document are kept in elements with name of the form
READ-THIS/xDOTy, where 'x' and 'y' represent the whole and fractional parts of
the release level. Example: Element READ-THIS/4DOT0 contains the READ-THIS
document that was distributed in Group W Toolset release 4.0.
Group W Toolset documentation is in HTML format. In file #1 of the release
are three elements that you should download to the same directory your PC or
Web site:
- Download GWTS/HTM to GWTS.HTM
- Download GWTSDOC/HTM to GWTSDOC.HTM
- Download GWTSTOC/HTM to GWTSTOC.HTM
Many people don't seem to know that you don't need a web server to browse HTML
documents. Your browser can read documents from a PC disk drive. For
example, if you downloaded the above files to the 'C:\' directory, you could
browse them by pointing your browser to 'file:///C:/GWTS.HTM' (newer browsers
allow you to shorten this to 'C:/GWTS.HTM'). GWTS.HTM defines a frameset that
uses the other two documents. If your browser does not support frames, then
point it to 'file:///C:/GWTSDOC.HTM' (and get a new browser!).

Correct Errors in Making the 4.2 Tape
Several errors were made in building the previous release tape and are now
corrected:
- Obsolete MASM symbolic Z is now deleted.
- Rather than refer to SYS$LIB$*SLRR, map ECL now refers to general @USE
name SLRR$ which, by default, points to SYS$LIB$*SAUTL. Affected elements
are ASGUSE, MCTPL/ECL and SYSID/ECL.
- READ-THIS/4DOT0 is corrected to clarify that @CYC 2R1 and @PRTF 2R1 require
@MFDPL 2R1 or higher.
Correct Known Bugs
Minor bugs in several processors have been corrected:
- @CYC 2R1A corrects comments and help text to clarify that @CYC requires
@MFDPL 2R1 or higher.
- DISK/SKEL is changed to correct typo in "Release History". No change to
@DISK release level.
- DISKPL is changed to correct typo in "Release History". No change to
@DISKPL release level.
- @MFDPL is changed to clarify in comments that only the first five removable
pack-ids are piped. No change to release level.
- @PRTF 2R1B has two corrections:
- Corrects comments and help text to clarify that @PRTF requires
@MFDPL 2R1 or higher.
- Fixes bug whereby processor erred if a file is placed on more than
five removable packs.
- @SYSID 2R5B expands the System ID Table to accomodate Exec level 46.
New Features
This section lists feature changes and additions that are in this release.
- GENERIC subroutine release 6.1 removes the restriction of 9 specification
fields; now only the buffer size restricts the number of fields that may be
processed. Some minor code clean-up was also performed.
- @MCTPL 1R2A now pipes Jump Key settings and boot device data. It also has
an expanded System ID Table to accomodate Exec level 46.
- @STSTAR 3R1A adds support for starting runs via a Smart Console script:
The processor reads the element specified on ST* keyin to get the
account/user-id from the @RUN card and sends a message to Smart Console,
which does an ST keyin. The ST* keyin can also be used to supply the
account/user-id. Both old (@START,/U) and new (ST via Smart Console)
RUN$ files can be used.
- @UDMDEL 1R2C uses CMS Packet Level 3, thereby supporting CMS numbers
greater than 7.
