Mr. Fred C. Morell, Jr. of Miramichi, NB passed away at Miramichi Regional Hospital on March 23, 2000 at age 78. He was the son of the late Fred C. & Grace (Jones) Morell. Born on June 13, 1921 in Minto, NB, he attended school there until 1934 when his family moved to Newcastle. He attended Harkins Academy and Harkins High School, graduating in both Academic and Business.
When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the North Shore (NB) Regiment, later transferring to Carleton and York Regiment. He served overseas and was severely wounded in Pescara, Italy. Following the war, he was employed for many years at Royal Canadian Naval Ammunition Depot (RCNAD) Renous until it closed in 1973. He was active in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 and was a Life Member.
Fred is survived by: two brothers, W. Horace Morell (Audrey) of Carleton Place, ON and George W. Morell (Ethel) of North Bay, ON; one sister, Lois Martin (Robert) of Miramichi; one uncle, James G. Morell (Vesta) of Fredericton; two aunts, Mrs. Hugh J. Morell of Miramichi and Mrs. Frank H. Morell of Minto; cousins, several nieces and nephews, as well as grand nieces and grand nephews.
Mr. Fred Morell rested at Davidson's Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Highway, with visitation Sunday, March 26, 2000 from 2-4 and 7-9. Royal Canadian Legion Branch #10 assembled at the funeral home Sunday evening for a Legion Service. The Funeral Service was held Monday, March 27, 2000 from Davidson's Funeral Home Chapel at 11 am with Rev. Bill LeGrand officiating. Organist was Mrs. Lois MacKinnon. Congregational Hymms were "Amazing Grace" and "O God Our Help in Ages Past". Pallbearers were Robert Westhaver, Dick Saulnier, Lawson Driscoll, Gerald Chambers, Nicholas Haars and Nick McKinnon. Burial will follow later in the spring.
